Week two re-cap

On December 17, 2022 the Arena Lacrosse League West Womens held their second weekend of games at the Langley Field House; on the unceeded Traditional Territory of the Kwantlen, Katzie, Semiahmoo, and Matsqui First Nations. To honor the passing of Team Deer coach Cherlyn Dawn Billy, the players, fans and coaches took to the floor to form a sharing circle and had a moment of silence; with some friends and family sharing words about their loved one.

The first game was Team Deer vs Team Hawks that took place at 1:00 pm. Team Deer were playing for CB, and played with a lot of heart throughout the game. Deer goal tender #00 Julie Spooner had a remarkable game with 54 saves. Hawks goalie #00 Julia Friesen had an impressive 28 saves to help the Hawks with their win. Hawks defeated the Deer 8 to 5. 

Hawks point scorers were #4 Bianca Santucci with 1 goal and 1 assist; #8 Teagan Ng with 4 goales; #10 Jamie Lynn Schmidt with 1 goal; #11 Breanna Hollingshead with 1 goal; #16 Rylee Mackenzie with 1 assist; #18 Kameko Hall with 1 assit; #19 Sienna Prestia with 1 goal and 1 assist; and #20 Jennie Grais with 1 assist. 

Deers point scorers were #2 Mary McQueen with 3 goales; #5 Mackenzie Rolland with 2 assists; #12 Sydney Fraser with 1 assist; #18 Colleen Kennedy with 1 assist; and #16 Macie Beck-Boreson with 1 goal and 1 assist.

The second game was Team Flying Squirrels vs Team Turtles that took place at 2:40 pm. Both teams fought hard all game, and played with heart. Goal tender for the Turtles # 00 Ryleigh Sadler made an amazing 31 saves. Goal tender for the Flying Squirrels #1 Dorothy Paul, stood on her head with 45 saves to help her team secure their win. In the end Team Flying Squirrels out played Team Turtles and won 17-8.

Flying Squirrels point scorers were #2 Alana Quackenbush with 1 assist; #6 Daniela Carey with 1 goal and 1 assist; # 7 Ashley Stuart with 2 goals and 1 assist; #9 Bella Gaspar with 1 goal and 2 assists; #10 Michela Paterson with 4 goals and 2 assists; #11 Ava Regan with 1 goal and 3 assists; #12 Mariah Whitfield with 2 goals; #13 Sam Taylor with 1 assist; #16 Harlowe Steele with 3 goals and 4 assists; #17 Ashley Bull with 4 goals and 2 assists; #19 Maise Bruce with 1 goal and 1 assist; and #1 Dorothy Paul with 1 assist.

Turtles point scorers were #3 Gaby Jones with 1 assist; #6 Taylor Hamilton with 1 goal; #7 Morgan Sherley with 1 goal and 2 assists; #9 Mackenzie Rolland with 1 goal and 1 assist; #12 Megan Kinna with 2 goal and 2 assists; # 14 Amber Haley with 2 goals; and #19 Avery Gert with 1 goal.

The final game of the day was Team Bats vs Team Bears, that took place at 4:20 pm. Both teams put out a great show of their talent and made for an exciting game to watch, as the two teams battled it out for the win. Bats goal tenders were split between #1 Ella Friesen and #00 Annika MacDonald, with a combine saves of 34 between them. Bears goal tender #00 Kristine Renauld had an impressive 22 saves to help the Bears secure their second win of the season. Bears defeated the Bats 9 to 6. 

Bats goal scorers were #4 Naomi Walser with 2 goals and 1 assist; #5 Meghan Hartley with 1 goal; #6 Rory Rothniel with 2 goals; #18 Danita Stroup with 1 assist; and #19 Adrianna Santucci with 1 goal. 

Bears goal scorers were #2 Michela Paterson with 3 goals and 1 assist; #3 Christel Blesch with 3 goals and 1 assist; #8 Delaney Davidson with 2 goals and 3 assists; #10 Zola LeDonne with 1 assist; and #20 Deb Phillips with 1 assist.
