Week 6 Recap sees terrific goaltending and highlight goals

by Paul St. John

3 more terrific ALL games today that saw highlight reels goals, saves, and a pretty good tilt between 2 wily vets, Mike Attwood of St. Catharines and Mike Gillan of the Toronto Monarchs; edge to Gillan but victory to the ShockWave 12-11, Jeff Wittig with the winner, Chris Attwood (8pts) and Bryan Neufeld (7pts) continue to lead the ShockWave attack. Matt Lyons continues to show that he still has game with 2 and 5 for the Monarchs.

Peterborough Timbermen continue to push their... opponents to the limit, only to come up short. In the second game of the day, the Timbermen lead 7-6 midway through the 3rd quarter but could only muster another goal late in the game as the Six Nations Snipers maintained their share of 1st place with an 11-8 victory. Warren Hill had his best game as a Sniper and Torrie Vanevery had 4 goals in his Snipers debut and Haodais Maracle had 2 beauties. Craig Point had a goal and 3 assists in his ALL debut.

Not very often can you say both goalies were terrific when 29 goals get scored in a game but in Paris tonight both Zach Higgins (Oshawa Outlaws) and Kevin Orlemen (Paris RiverWolves) made several unreal saves but in the end Higgins was better on this night as the Outlaws win 17-12 over the RiverWolves in the battle for a share of 1st place. Matt Spanger had back to back breakaway goals to put the game out of reach but the big different on the night was 4 shorthanded Outlaws goals including a "worth seeing again" behind the back goal by John St. John who lead the Outlaws with 2 and 2. Mike Burke and Brendan Thenhaus have to be getting looks from above as both again had big nights for the RiverWolves, Burke with 6pts, Thenhaus with 4pts.

 Standings after week 6:
 Oshawa Outlaws 4 and 1
Six Nations Snipers 4 and 2
St. Catharines ShockWave 3 and 2
 Paris RiverWolves 3 and 3
 Toronto Monarchs 2 and 3
