WALL East Team Honours Former Player

by Robyn Eno

Some people have been wondering "Who are the 66erz?? in the Women's ALL East Division.  We sat down with Alisha Smith, captain of the 66erz, to find out the reason for the changing of the Shockwave moniker to 66erz.

"Becky Smith ‘Beckerz’ to most started playing lacrosse at the age of 16 for one of the four lacrosse teams that were formed here on Six Nations before joining the Grand River Attack. In her eight years of playing  she had won multiple championships and had a huge impact on the Lacrosse Community. Known for her amazing stick skills, shot, and hard hits on the floor. Off the floor she was always smiling, caring, and touched the hearts of her teammates and friends. Unfortunately, in her 24th year of life, Beckerz had passed in a tragic work accident in November 2012.  After she had passed my family and I organized the Becky Smith Memorial Lacrosse Tournament but since Covid the tournament has no longer continued. This last year marked her 10 year memorial and I want it to honour her the best way I knew how and what better way than a lacrosse team. Beckerz always wore the number 66 so it has significant meaning to my family and I. So when coming up with a name it was a no brainer the Ohsweken 66erz it is.  Definitely thankful to the WALL for allowing me to enter the team and to my family and friends that had no hesitation on joining to honour her one last time."

And honouring Becky they certainly are.  The 66erz are currently holding first place in the Women's ALL East division and at the time of this post they are the only undefeated team in the league.
