#Supporting Savanna
The power of sport has the ability to bring people together; to build life long friendships and a feeling of community and family. We are fortunate in British Columbia to have such a beautiful community through lacrosse, and one that comes together for it's members.
Savanna Alivia Lynn Gervais brought sunshine to the world on April 11, 2018. She brought loving smiles to her mommy and daddy, and her three siblings. On January 15, 2020 the Gervais family had their world come crashing down with the news that Savanna had an aggressive form of cancer. Savanna was a true fighter, and had the love and support of her family every step along the way. She was determined and resilient in her efforts to heal and overcome her cancer.
During her time at BC Children's Hospital she was part of the "Small is Mighty" campaign. The campaign shows kids battling and fighting with different health challenges and "it is a reminder we can do big things, even when the odds feel stacked against us." (Surina Sproul, VP of Marketing and Communications, BCH)
On November 2, 2022 the Gervais family learned that Savanna's cancer had come back with a vengeance, and that she was terminal. The family moved to hospice care and were by Savanna's side for 17 days. On November 19, 2022 with her family by her side, Savanna smiled for the last time.
Savanna taught us all how to live life to the fullest and appreciate the little things. She was the definition of courage and strength; showed through her actions just what resiliency looks like. She reminded us to love unicorns and to look up at the pink sky.
To honor Savanna and pay tribute to such a beautiful soul the ALL West Women's asked for permission from the family to host a fundraiser for BC Children's Hospital in her name. Throughout the month of December all of the ALL West Women's games were entry by donation, with all funds collected going to the BC Children's Hospital in Savanna Gervais name. We are happy to announce that we collected $1,053 to honor Savanna. We thank all of the fans, family, and lacrosse community for coming together to honor a beautiful person and support the family.
