Peterborough Timbermen Preview

by Stephen Stamp

The Peterborough Timbermen will enter the inaugural season of the Arena Lacrosse League with a handful of players who were part of the Durham Turfdogs club that won the final Creators Cup championship before CLax folded.

That group includes: righty forwards Tim Bergin, Matt Crough and Josh Wasson; lefties Geoff McNulty and Cody McMahon; defenders Pete Rennie, Eric Shewell, Joe Wasson and Riley Campbell; and goalies Cole Murray and Ryan Masters.

While several of those players were either injured or up with National Lacrosse League teams and missed the actual championship game, all contributed to and carry with them the experience of the drive to the title.

The Timbermen, led by head coach Joe Sullivan, add some intriguing young talent to that core such as goalie Nolan Clayton, fresh off a stirling run to the Minto Cup final and a training camp with the Colorado Mammoth. Garrett Lewis brings some athleticism to the defensive end and Doug Utting is a transition player that doesn't have much name recognition yet but has some serious game and a high ceiling.

Peterborough opens its season in the 4pm game against the St. Catharines ShockWave as part of the ALL's tripleheader Showcase Event at Oshawa's Tribute Communities Centre Saturday January 7.
