OHSWEKEN BEARS WIN THEIR CLOSING GAME OF THE REGULAR SEASON

by Andre Spence

Yesterday the Ohsweken Bears and the Peterborough Timbermen faced off for the final time in the ALL East’s regular season.

Both teams played with a lot of energy until the final buzzer and as an upset, the Bears beat the Timbermen in the high-action game, 15 - 12.

The three stars of the game were Sam Forbes from the Bears, Lucas Beaver from the Bears and Riley Curtis from the Timbermen.

RECAP -

The game started with a slow scoring start. It took until almost halfway through the first quarter for Peterborough to get the first goal. Even though there were many shot attempts, the goal-pacing didn’t increase much for the first period.

The Timbermen scored once more, and the Bears retaliated with their own to close out, putting Peterborough up 2 – 1 at the quarter’s end.

The second-period scoring was a complete turnaround compared to the first. The Bears scored the first two, and the Timbermen followed with their own back-to-back goals. But after this, Ohsweken went on a five-goal-run to round off the first half. Going into halftime, the Bears were up 8 – 4.

Peterborough opened the second half hastily trying to recover the lead. Scoring once within the first minute and again two minutes later. They were able to outscore Ohsweken for the quarter but couldn’t regain the lead. Going into the closing period, the Bears were up 10 – 8.

Both teams got their first goal quickly this quarter. The Bears scored 24 seconds in, and the Timbermen scored 15 seconds later. The remainder of the quarter saw more scoring pattern repetition.

Ohsweken went on a three-goal run and right after Peterborough went on their own three-goal run. For the last three minutes, the game was at a two-goal difference, but with 20 seconds left, Heron Snow scored for the Bears, sealing the game off in an Ohsweken victory.

Lucas Beaver from the Bears led the game in total points with eight. Snow and Riley Curtis from the Timbermen were tied for second in points, both securing seven.
