The Whitby Steelhawks paid a visit to the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena on Sunday January 11, 2026 to meet the Six Nations Snipers in Arena Lacrosse League (ALL) action. The Snipers had stitched together a two-game win streak while the Steelhawks came in on the back of two close losses.

It would be a tale of two games, the Snipers ran out to a 4-0 lead after one quarter while the Steelhawks waited until the fourth quarter to register six goals of their own while giving up only two. At the final buzzer, the visitors owned the 14-10 victory and were back in the win column with a 2-3 record in this 14-game ALL season.

It was all Six Nations to start the contest. When the first 15 minutes had elapsed, the scoreboard registered a 4-0 lead for the home team. head Coach Ryan Degerdon and Assistant Brad Reed are consistent in their messaging that the goal is to win each of the four quarters. That wasn’t the case on Sunday afternoon, at least to start the contest.

“I remind the guys every week that how we arrive at the rink and how we carry ourselves will impact how we play, it wasn’t a good start on Sunday, and we had to send a message”, said Degerdon.

Amos Whitcomb scored the first goal for Whitby with almost three minutes off the clock in the second quarter. The Pipher brothers, Devin and Parker, each contributed a goal which saw Whitby close the gap and at the half it was 6-4 for Six Nations, certainly not out of reach.

“At half-time Brad and I stressed that all we can control in the game is effort and smart play.  We told the guys that if the ball wasn’t going in it was time to make sure we were first on the ball, first off the floor and take the game to the other team”, added Degerdon.

The message resonated to the Steelhawk players as they reeled off three straight to tie the contest at 7-7 with half a quarter remaining. Defense took over as each team scored only once more before the third quarter had elapsed and the scoreboard displayed an 8-8 draw.

With only 40 seconds off the clock in the fourth quarter, Curtis Conley scored to put one Whitby ahead by one and a lead they would not relinquish. The Steelhawks outscored the Snipers 6-2 in that fourth quarter for the 14-10 win.

“We told the guys after the game that today’s win set a new standard and we will expect to see this kind of effort for the remainder of the season. The players heard the message and their play showed them that it can work,“ said Degerdon.

The Steelhawks are now home at Children’s Arena for three consecutive Saturday afternoons to end the month, all games are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. First up, the Ohsweken Bears (3-2) will visit on January 17.
