Austin Murphy named 2018 ALL Rookie of the Year

                                               Austin Murphy - 2018 Arena Lacrosse League Rookie of the Year

The Arena Lacrosse League announced today that Austin Murphy of the Whitby Steelhawks has been named the 2018 Rookie of the Year.

“We had a tremendous group of rookies in 2018 including many with the champion Steelhawks,” stated league President Paul St. John. “When you look at Austin’s overall game, his contributions on offense, his tenaciousness on loose balls along with the consistency of timely and exciting plays, you see a player that seeks success game in and game out, he is very deserving of the award.”    

Whitby Steelhawks General Manager Brad MacArthur adds, “Austin is a dynamic young player with tremendous upside. He isn't afraid to play in the dirty areas, and has a knack for being in the right spots at the right time. He was a key piece of our offense last season, and always stepped up in pressure filled games. He has all the tools to contribute at the next level.  

His dedication to the process of getting better makes him an extremely special talent. One who is always looking to better himself and better the team. We look forward into seeing him in the NLL and contributing there as much as he did with us in the ALL.

 Murphy lead the ALL in scoring with 83 points during his stellar rookie campaign, and added another 20 points in three playoffs games, which saw his Whitby Steelhawks capture the ALL Cup, becoming the 2018 Arena Lacrosse League champions.

 Murphy will be fitted with a commemorative ring from Baron, the official provider of championship rings and individual awards to the Arena Lacrosse League.
