ALL West Womens Season Opener

On December 10, 2022 the Arena Lacrosse League West Womens held their second season opener at the Langley Field House on the unceeded Traditional Territory of the Kwantlen, Katzie, Semiahmoo, and Matsqui First Nations . To honor the Creators Game and pay respect , we had the privilege of starting the season in a good way by having Deanna Miller proud member of the Katzie First Nations. 

All games in December are entry by donation with all funds being donated to the BC Children's Hospital to honor Savanna, who passed away at the age of 4 from neuroblastoma. Donations collected from the Season Opener amounted to just over $600! 

The first game of the season was the Hawks vs the Turtles, that took place at 1:00 pm. The game was a well fought out match between the two teams, and the goal tending really aided the both teams. Turtles goal tender Ryleigh Sadler came up with 33 saves during the game, and Hawks goalie Mady Morrison had 14 saves.  

Hawks point scorers were Andee Jackson with 1 assist; Kameko Hall with 2 assists; Keira Scott with 2 goals; Tiana Bikic with 2 assists; Breanna Hollingshead with 3 goals; Bianca Santucci with 2 goals and 1 assist; Jamie Lynn Schmidt with 2 goals and 1 assist; Raegan Macenzie with 1 goal and 1 assist; Rylee Mackenzie with 1 assist; and Sienna Prestia with 1 goal and 2 assists.

Turtles point scorers were Amber Haley with 1 goal and 1 assist; Saaya Bhandari with 1 assist; and Amy Ralph with 2 goals. Team Turtles had 2 penalty minutes.

Hawks in the end beat the Turtles 10 to 3. 

The second game of the season was the Bats vs the Deer, that took place at 2:40 pm. The game was a real nail biter and great show from both teams. Bats goal tender Ella Friesen had a impressive 56 saves! Team Deer goal tender Ryleigh Sadler coming up with 33 saves. 

Team Bats point scorers were Naomi Walser with 4 goals; Delaney Davidson with 1 assist; Deb Phillips with 2 assits; Mady Nugent with 1 goal; Elora Waardenburg with 1 assist and Danita Stroup with 1 goal and 5 assists. Team Bats had 2 penalty minutes.

Team Deer point scorers were Maren Meberg with 1 goal; Mary McQueen with 3 goals; Ashleigh Lesser with 1 assist Macie Beck-Boreson with 1 assist; Bonita Woodford with 1 assist; Charlie Dayman with 2 assists; Kaitlin McDonnel with 1 goal, and Elizabeth Sinow with 1 assist. Team Deer had 2 penalty minutes.

In the end the Bats defeated the Deer 6 to 5.

The third game of the day was between the Bears and the Flying Squirrels, that took place at 4:25 pm. The game showcased some talented lacrosse and team work. With team Bears goal tender Kristine Renauld making an impressive 30 saves. Team Flying Squirrels goal tender Madison Kokoska coming up with a big 33 saves. 

Team Bears point scorers were Danita Stroup with 4 goals and 3 assists; Christel Blesch with 4 goals and 5 assists; Chelsea Johnson with 4 goals; Delaney Davidson with 4 goals and 2 assists; Nicole Pahnke with 1 assist; Zola LeDonne with 1 goal; Deb Phillips with 1 goal and 1 assist; and Jordan Bolam with 1 goal . Team Bears had 2 penalty minutes.

Team Flying Squirrels point scorers were Megan Stewart with 1 goal; Michela Paterson with 2 goals and 1 assist; Ashley Bull with 2 goals; Ava Regan with 1 assist and Finch Philbrook with 1 assist. Team Flying Squirrel had 8 penalty minutes.  

In the end Bears defeated the Flying Squirrels 13 to 5.
