ALL East Game Recaps - Week 5

by Gary Groob

The Arena Lacrosse League East opened 2025 with four big games on the schedule.

Saturday at the Children's Arena in Oshawa, Ontario

Early Game:

Peterborough Timbermen 13  Oshawa Outlaws 12

In a game that looked like Peterborough was going to win easily, penalty trouble in the last few minutes almost cost the Timbermen the game.  For almost 55:00 Peterborough 's defense did a really good job bottling up John St. John, Luke Laskiewicz, Austin Blumbergs Chris Attwood and Gareth Haigh.  The parade to the penalty box gave the Outlaws enough life to come from a 13-8 deficit to bring it to  13-12 with possession.  Goalie Ethan Robertson was excellent in the final seconds to keep this a Peterborough win.  The Timbermen held on for the 13-12 victory.

Zach Thompson (3g,2a),Jacob Gasperetti (3g,2a), and Taite Cattoni (2g,3a) led the offense for the Timbermen, with Cam Milligan (0g,4a) being the playmaker.

Luke Laskiewicz (5g,2a) and Austin Blumbergs (3g,1a) led the scoring for Oshawa.

The Three Stars:

1. Ethan Robertson (Peterborough)
2. Jacob Gasperetti (Peterborough)
3. Luke Laskiewicz (Oshawa)

Late Game:

Brampton Express 10  Whitby Steelhawks 11 in Overtime

In an absolutely classic game, the Brampton Express and the Whitby Steelhawks went stride for stride, and punch for punch the entire game.  Tied 9-9 after three quarters, Devlin Shanahan (Brampton goalie) and Lucas Coote (Whitby goalie) stole the show with big save after big save on the fourth quarter sending this game to OT.  In the extra period, Devin Pipher converted a Liam Aston pass for the game winner.  The Steelhawks stay undefeated with the 11-10 victory.

Devin Pipher (3g,1a), Matt Boissonneault (2g,1a), Nate Woods (2g,0a) and Liam Aston (2g,0a) led the way for Whitby, with Luke Keenan (0g,4a) as the playmaker.

Curtis Ward (3g,3a), Zach Sunderland (3g,2a), and Jacob Janke (2g,1a) led the scoring for the Express, with Austin Hasen (0g,4a) and Curtis Butka (1g,3a) being the playmakers.

Sunday at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Hagersville, Ontario

Early Game:

Ohsweken Bears 4  Paris RiverWolves 17

The Paris RiverWolves took a little while to get rolling in this game, but once in motion they steamrolled the Ohsweken Bears 17-4.  Led by Carson Moyer (3g,1a), Noah Simonelli (2g,5a), Kurtis Woodland (3g,3a), and Caiden Merritt (2g,2a), the RiverWolves had a five goal run in the first half, followed by a nine goal run in the second half to run away with the game.  The Bears couldn't string two goals together all day.  With the exception of the fourth quarter, Ohsweken couldn't even get two goals in the same quarter.  Paris has had strong offensive output most of the season, but this day the defense was the story, stifling the Bears at every turn en route to the lopsided victory.

Steven Portelli (2g,0a), John Harrington (1g,1a) and Haneh Brant (1g,0a) accounted for Ohsweken's offense.

The Three Stars:

1. Chase Cosgrove (Paris)
2. Kurtis Woodland (Paris)
3. Kochi Nakamura (Paris)

Late Game:

Toronto Monarchs 15  Six Nations Snipers 12

In a game that went back and forth all afternoon, the Toronto Monarchs mounted a strong fourth quarter to come away with the 15-12 victory.   Tied 11-11 after three, some penalty trouble for the Snipers opened the door for Toronto.  The Monarchs capitalized with two power-play goals late in the game.  Goalie Sam Haines was unbeatable down the stretch for the Toronto, preserving the victory.
Parker Pipher (2g,5a), Tanner Buck (3g,2a), Riley Ford (2g,2a), Patrick Thomson (2g,0a) and Mason Kamminga (2g,0a) led the Monarchs offense.

Cheyton King (5g,1a), Jeremy Bomberry (2g,4a), and Kealon Pilon (2g,4a) led the way for the Snipers.
