This Week in the Arena Lacrosse League-Week Six

by Gary Groob

The Arena Lacrosse League (ALL) showcased three entertaining games this past weekend, showing off the skill level of the league, and it's players.

Saturday January 25th

Game one:

Six Nations Snipers (0-5) vs. Peterborough Timbermen (3-2) at the Millbrook Arena in Millbrook, Ontario, saw a very evenly played game until a stretch of 13:11, between periods three and four, in which the Timbermen scored six of seven goals, taking a tied game, going in front by five goals. Peterborough hung on for the 14-11 victory in this penalty filled affair.

Vaughn Harris (4g,4a), Ty Thompson (2g,2a), and Skkylar Thomas (2g,2a) led the way for the Timbermen, while Cameron Simpson (0g,3a) was the setup guy.

The Snipers were led by Tye Argent (3g,0a), Alec Tamas (3g,0a), and Mike Mclaughlin (2g,1a), with Vern Hill (1g,3a) scoring his third shorthanded goal in as many weeks.

The Three Stars:

1. Vaughn Harris F...Peterborough
2. Landon Kells G...Peterborough
3. Kroy Arnold T...Six Nations

Game Two:

Whitby Steelhawks (5-0) vs. Toronto Monarchs (2-4) at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre (TRAC) had the undefeated Steelhawks remain undefeated, hanging on for the win 8-7.

The Monarchs played well for the majority of the game, but a lackluster second quarter, in which they were outscored 4-0, had them chasing the Steelhawks the rest of the game. Whitby built the lead to 8-2 before Toronto put forth a valiant effort scoring five. However, it was too little, too late, as they ran out of time falling just short.

Whitby was led by Dylan Hutchison (1g,2a), Liam Osbourne (2g,0a), and Cam Milligan (1g,1a), while Toronto got production from Graham Bergsma (2g,1a), Tanner Buck (2g,0a), and Cam Mancini (1g,3a).

The Three Stars:

1. Laine Hruska G...Whitby
2. Joel Watson G...Toronto
3. Mike Byrne T...Whitby

Sunday January19th

Game Three:

Oshawa Outlaws (2-3) vs. Paris RiverWolves (5-1) at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena (ILA) had an Outlaws team eager to move up in the standings in a real test against a powerhouse in the league.

The first quarter had Oshawa playing Paris tough, holding them off the score sheet, scoring once themselves, then, the roof fell in. Paris scored eighteen of the next twenty one goals breaking the game wide open, on way to a 23-7 victory.

Brandon Robinson (5g,4a) and Kyle Dawson (5g,2a) led the way for Paris, while Connor Goodwin (1g,6a), and Dan Keane (1g,4a), were the playmakers.

Oshawa got production from Alec Simons (3g,0a), John St. John (1g,3a), and Luke Laszkiewicz (1g,3a), with singles going to Mike Rybka (1g,0a), and Josh Gilray (1g,0a).
